Fragrances are more than a simple sensory reaction. Due to their immense evocative properties, they imprint themselves on the mind and guide memories, constituting a true olfactory heritage unique to each person. Over the years, the Sensory Department at Mérieux NutriSciences has had the opportunity to grow in this area and specialize in the evaluation of the olfactory profile of dispensers, fragrances, and candles.
Our sensorial projects
Through the accurate selection and continuous intensive training, our panel of judges is highly specialized in the identification and quantitative evaluation of the main notes underlying the formulation of candles and home fragrances.
The sensory analysis
Sensory analysis represents an excellent tool to:
- quantitatively assess the characteristics of a product’s profile
- measure the sensory impact of changes carried out in the formulation
- compare with competitors
Our sensory lab also has a large consumer database, which is essential for:
- understand product liking, and its ranking versus competitors
- know how changes made to a product are actually perceived by a non-expert nose
Our new areas
The new areas designed and built for the study of fragrances and room scenting are perfect for meeting any project, whether in sensory or market research.
Our booths have standardized dimensions (2×1.8×3 m) allowing absolute reproducibility and reliability of collected data. Air-recirculation systems ensure restoration of normal odour neutrality in a short time, thus maximizing the efficiency of each booth and allowing evaluation of multiple products simultaneously, and direct comparison between multiple samples.
Our advantages in a nutshell
- Ability to compare multiple products simultaneously
- Maximum standardization of evaluations
- Air-recirculation
- Reliability of data collected
- Ability to perform tests with trained panels of judges and/or with consumers
- Reduction in analysis time and cost
